CT DOT Project No. 0139-0132 South Windsor
The project consisted of the rehabilitation and/or removal and replacement of two (2) existing deteriorated 12-foot wide by 14-foot tall elliptical corrugated metal pipes which carry the Podunk River under I-291 in South Windsor. The overall length of each pipe is approximately 470 feet long.
Approximately 100 feet of each pipe under King Street was replaced with new steel tunnel liner plate. The entire length of the west pipe was lined with a spray on cementitious material. The east pipe was slip lined with HDPE pipe and grouted in place. Water handling was accomplished in two stages via steel sheet pile cofferdams which diverted water into one pipe while work was performed on the other. The scope included the construction of new concrete headwalls at each end of the culvert as well as reconstruction of a portion of King Street in South Windsor.
